Stepping Stones Childcare (Cornwall) is a registered charity serving the local area, founded in 1991, we now have two settings based in St Austell.
Our primary goal is to ensure we provide the highest quality childcare that is accessible, affordable and a place where children enjoy being. We believe it is vital your children are safe, loved and stimulated in an efficient, well maintained and friendly environment.
Above all, we want your children to leave Stepping Stones with the confidence and skills to help them meet the challenges that lie ahead in school and beyond. We passionately believe this has to be a joint effort between ourselves and the parents/carers and will do all we can to enable this to take place.

Meet The Team
I have been working for Stepping Stones in various roles since 1998 but have been manager for the majority of those years. I am fortunate that I am in a job I enjoy and am privileged to have such an amazing team. There is nothing that will beat a happy team and happy children who are all growing and developing. In my personal time I enjoy doing cross stitch, walking the dog, spending time with my family and of course shopping.
I have worked in early years since 2012 and have been working for Stepping Stones ever since I qualified. There are many parts of the job that I enjoy but seeing smiling little faces looking up at me has got to be the best part. In my spare time I enjoy long coastal walks with my partner and very energetic dog.
With a background in accountancy, I have been keeping Stepping Stones on the straight and narrow since 2007. We are one of the largest remaining charity childcare facilities in Cornwall and we employ around 30 people so there is always something to keep me busy. Although I don’t work directly with the children, knowing that we are providing high quality, affordable childcare and education for the children of St Austell is hugely rewarding. I have recently started sea swimming all year round so when I have an hour or so to myself, I’m usually found on a local beach..
I have worked for Stepping Stones for around 15 years, I started part time when my children were small taking registers and dealing with any daily payments received.
I now spend a lot of time behind a screen as Administration and Finance Officer, but do get out to see the little ones a couple of times a week.
I contact parents after they initially enquire wanting a child to start and follow your journey through to involve the booking of sessions, invoicing, payment queries and much more
I have been working for Stepping Stones as admin support and doing general maintenance since 2004; as you can imagine it’s a very varied job. I work with an amazing team and I enjoy various craft work, reading, working in the garden and walking my dog.
I have been working for Stepping Stones Childcare since 2003. Both my adult children attended Stepping Stones, my oldest went to Mount Charles and my youngest attended Stepping Stones when it was based at Carclaze chapel.
I love gaining the child’s trust and watching them grow in confidence and ability.
In my spare time I enjoy walks with my husband and dog.
I’ve been working at Stepping Stones as an early years educator since I qualified in 2010. I love helping and watching the children grow and develop over the time they spend with us. It’s lovely to think that I’ve played a small part in their journey and to see them move on to primary school as happy, confident four year olds.
Away from Stepping Stones, I play the clarinet in various orchestras throughout the county, I teach the piano, flute & clarinet at home, and you might see me reading a book as I walk around St Austell.
In 2022 I made the decision to change my career from working with the Elderly to work in a Child Care setting. The best move I could have made – seeing the children’s little faces smiling, laughing and building bonds is amazing to watch daily and to see how they grow in learning new things and need you more than you realise they would is such a special feeling for me.
I’m a mum of 2 girls (9 year age gap) so my time off is revolved around them and family.
I am a qualified level 3 early years practitioner and forest school leader. I am very passionate about my work and believe in continually improving my own practice to provide the children within my care with the best possible opportunities and outcomes to support their individual needs and development. I moved to Cornwall in 2023 with my husband, 2 daughters, our 2 cats and puppy. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors rain or shine and love long coastal walks with my family
I joined Stepping Stones in May 2023 as a play assistant. I have worked in a variety of educational settings over the years. I am a graduate of the Open University where I completed my foundation degree in early years. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and making a difference in the children’s lives. When I am not working you can find me out walking my dog in the woods with my two boys.
I have worked at Stepping Stones since 2018 but have been working in childcare since 2011. I have two teenage daughters. I enjoy going to gigs, watching Netflix and pottering about in the garden as I enjoy nature.
I love all things gothic, rock music, horror movies and I am completely mad on Autumn.
I have been working at Stepping Stones since 2018. I really enjoy my job, we get all kinds of different characters and the team I work with are incredible. I love watching the children grow and reach milestones in their own time. In my own time I love going to the beach with my little boy and spending time with my loved ones.
I joined Stepping Stones in April 2022 as a member of the holiday club team. I work as a supply teacher in local schools during the term time and enjoy spotting familiar faces at the holiday club.
I have 2 children of my own; a football-mad 8 year old & a 5 year old who loves both glitter and mud!
I have worked in childcare since 2015 and I have been at Stepping Stones since 2020.
I love watching the children grow & flourish during their time with us.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and I am involved in a local swimming club.
